Whether you’re going for glitter and glam, or a subtle day-to-day look, I wanted to share my favorite finishing touches to make your makeup look incredible and stay in place from your morning coffee until you’re dancing the night away.
I use cream or wax-based formulas for all of my base makeup, including my foundation, bronzer, blush, and even my eyebrows. Cream and wax products tend to crease all over the face, especially in heat and humidity. That’s why I always make sure to set my look with a really good loose translucent or lightly colored powder.
I like to use the Anastasia Beverly Hills Loosing Setting Powder in Vanilla, which is an ivory shade. It’s a super lightweight formula that helps to blur fine lines and pores, as well as soften any base makeup, so you’ll never end up with an overly harsh contour with distinct lines. I also love its matte finish, and the container is so big it’ll last you forever.
To use this powder, I take a big, fluffy brush, dip it into the powder’s tray, then tap off the excess to avoid an overly dry look and prevent the powder from floating around in the air. I apply it all over my face, but I especially focus on applying it where I see the most creasing and caking: For me, that’s over and under my eyes, as well as along my hairline (because of sweat and natural oils from my hair).
I have pale, almost white lashes, so once my makeup is set I like to use a good lash base before applying mascara. I use L’Oreal’s Voluminous Lash Primer to add length and volume to my lashes. Some people just layer their mascara for this, but that causes the mascara to clump and weigh down the lashes, ultimately making them not look as long or nowhere near as natural.
This primer also conditions your lashes, making them softer and more nourished the more you use it.
After the lash primer, I go in with mascara. I’ve recently fallen in love with the Buxom Lash Waterproof Volumizing Mascara because it does everything I already mentioned I want; longer lashes without the clumps! It’s waterproof, so it’s not going to go anywhere, and the brush separates each lash easily, so every hair gets coated in its volume-boosting, vitamin-enriched formula.
To finish my look, I like to top my lipstick with an NYX Butter Gloss. I used the shade Éclair this time, but I own almost every color from this collection because I love the lip-hydrating formula so much. This is a light pink, almost purple color that gives just a bit of shimmer without being sticky, and it stays on well throughout the day.
