Tutorial: How to get Flawless Foundation

Tutorial: How to get Flawless Foundation

Create a natural, seamless canvas for any makeup look

After spending minutes to hours creating your latest makeup look, nothing is more discouraging than realizing your foundation is spotty, uneven, cakey, or textured. After struggling with different application methods and products, but I’ve finally found the solution for always flawless foundation, which I’m going to share with you.

The key comes in three: A good prep, a good formula, and a good tool.

Starting with a fresh, clean face, you have to prep your foundation with a primer. You can read more about my favorite primer here (I love the e.l.f. Matte Putty Primer, but there’s a great Luminous version as well), but any well-formulated silicone-based primer can work. Primers with a silicone base smooth out any unwanted texture or large pores while keeping the skin hydrated but not greasy.

After your skin is prepped, it’s time for the foundation itself. I love the Anastasia Beverly Hills Luminous Foundation because it has a natural finish but still gives the skin a healthy, radiant glow.

No matter the foundation you use, apply one pump (to start, at least) to the back of your hand, then apply dots where needed to your face with your finger. Your entire face doesn’t need to be coated in foundation because applying a thick layer all over leads to caking and settling. Keep it mostly in the center of the face, but use some extra on areas with acne or hyperpigmentation.

Once you’ve added your foundation dots, it’s time to take your tool. I am using the eCosmetics Makeup Blender, but any brush or sponge will do. Using a stippling motion, blend the foundation around your face and down your neck, making sure there aren’t any harsh lines where the makeup ends and your natural skin tone starts.

All that’s left is to set the look with your favorite powder, and voila! Flawless foundation every time.
