The BEST Routine for Breakage and Hair Fallout

The BEST Routine for Breakage and Hair Fallout

How Kerastase’s Genesis Line Rescued My Thinning Mane

I’m about to get real with y’all. I just had my last baby five months ago and noticed a ton of hair falling out in the shower. I’m talking chunks. I started to have a lot of thinning around my scalp and the sides of my hairline. So, I decided to do something about it.

I went to the Kerastase website and took their quiz, and it recommended—for my fallout specifically and my hair type—to try the Kerastase Genesis line of products. I have been using the full system for around six weeks now, and I am starting to notice a lot more volume in my hair and a lot of regrowth in the areas where I was having fallout.

This line absolutely works, and it is game-changing. If you’re experiencing a lot of fallout, you want more volume in your hair, or your hair is thinning, I 10-out-of-10 recommend.

I’m going to go through what I do as part of this routine every single day, every single week, and how it all works. I’m also going to break it down into two parts: The shower part and the post-shower part.

As part of the shower, you are going to have a shampoo and a conditioner that you’re going to use every single time you wash your hair. Now, I don’t wash my hair every time I take a shower. I wash my hair about once, sometimes twice, a week.

Kerastase’s Genesis – Bain Nutri-Fortifiant Shampoo nourishes and strengthens weak and damaged hair to prevent breakage. It also detangles and conditions locks while gently cleansing the scalp of impurities for fuller, healthier tresses with a soft and lightweight finish.

I highly recommend doing a double lather with this shampoo, which means getting your hair completely wet, doing one pass of the shampoo, rinsing it completely out, and then doing it over again. While it does lather easily, I found that if I do it a second time, I get a much better lather and deeper clean than doing it only once.

After I am done shampooing in the shower, I immediately go in and apply the conditioner.

Kerastase’s Genesis – Fondant Renforçateur Conditioner is creamy with a lightweight finish that helps to restore the hair fiber and reinforce its natural resistance to prevent breakage. It also softens, smooths, and strengthens the strands while nourishing locks for a shiny and sleek finish.

I apply this conditioner from the mid-shaft to the ends of my hair. I then let it set in the shower for three to five minutes while I do all my other things, like washing my face, shaving, and whatever else I need to do before I rinse it out last.

The other thing you are going to want to do weekly, which I’ve been doing, is using Kerastase’s Genesis – Masque Reconstituant Hair Mask. It’s a rich formula that nourishes, detangles, and strengthens the hair to minimize breakage and hair fall. This is recommended as a weekly rinse-out treatment that should be applied to damp hair.

After I’ve done my full shampoo and conditioner, I usually wring out my hair in the shower, get as much water out as possible, and then use this hair mask to completely lather my hair from the root to the end before letting it sit for five to 10 minutes.

You’re going to take a longer shower when you do this treatment, but it is well worth it. I’m telling you; this mask makes your hair so soft and tangle-free when you come out, it is insane.

That is the shower portion of the Kerastase Genesis anti-hair-fall system. Next is the post-shower routine you will want to follow to reduce hair fallout and help hair thickness and volume, as well as the products I use as part of normal, everyday styling.

Product number one is Kerastase’s Genesis – Serum Fortifiant Hair Serum. This is a nightly hair serum that prevents hair loss by helping to re-anchor the hair follicles, encourage growth, and soothe and reinforce the scalp. It has a jelly-like texture for easier application without any runs, and it’s a daily treatment that strengthens weakened locks, making them look healthier and fuller.

You want to fill up the dropper to the line, put it in your palm, and then run it through your hair, ensuring that you’re getting a lot on your scalp, massaging it into your scalp, and smoothing and massaging the rest through your ends.

You should use this serum every single night, consistently, for at least six weeks.

The other part of the Kerastase Genesis anti-hair-fall system is the Defense Thermique Blow Dry Primer. I actually never blow dry my hair because I don’t like the heat damage that blow drying does, and it usually makes my hair very frizzy, but this can be used with blow drying if you do blow dry your hair. How I use this hair primer, though, is as a general heat protectant before I put any heat on my hair.

This fortifying blow-dry fluid adds hydration and up to 24 hours of protection against frizz without weighing hair down. It also detangles and prevents breakage from brushing while protecting against up to 438ºF during heat styling.

Before I curl my hair with a curling wand or before I straighten it, I spray a couple of squirts of this protectant on each side of my hair, making sure I’m getting from root to tip before I do anything with heat. This helps prevent breakage, and again, helps strengthen hair and protect it from all the heat that we put on it every single day.

I am ready to show you guys my results.

As you can see—compared to my before photos—my hair is a lot thicker, has a lot more volume than it did prior to using this system, and in the areas where I was experiencing a lot of hair loss, I’m starting to see a lot of hair growth, even in just the six weeks that I’ve been using it.

Above my temples is where I lost all my hair, and then along the scalp line I was thinning really badly. You can see the patches along my hairline where I’m already experiencing like a lot of regrowth, again, just in six weeks.

I can’t imagine what my results are going to be like after continuing to use this system for 60 days, or 90 days. As I said, I 10-out-of-10 recommend this if you are experiencing any type of hair loss, not just for postpartum, or if you have thin hair and want a fuller, thicker mane. The Kerastase Genesis line of products is a game changer.
