The Story

FOREO was founded in 2013 by Filip Sedic. Sedic, a designer and innovator, had previously worked in the tech industry and had a passion for creating high-tech, user-friendly products that could improve people’s lives. He saw an opportunity to bring the latest technology to the beauty industry and create a new standard for skincare devices.

Inspired by Queen’s legendary song “Heaven For Everyone,” Sedic named his new company FOREO, as in “FOR EveryOne.”

While the brand started in Sweden with the world’s first soft silicone facial cleansing brush LUNA, which launched a decade ago, it quickly gained popularity among beauty enthusiasts. FOREO’s mission was to create a new generation of skincare products that were not only effective, but innovative and enjoyable to use.

“We are always looking for things that can have a substantial impact, and asking which innovations can improve people’s lives in the most significant way,” Sedic says. “We are playing with a whole range of different things that we believe can have a monumental impact.”

Materials

Functionality, form, and design are FOREO’s pillars of craftsmanship. FOREO devices are made of top-grade materials and use two types of silicone: medical-grade and body-safe silicone.

Medical-grade silicone is soft and flexible while still being durable in both arid and humid climates. It’s also chemically stable, which makes it non-reactive, so it can be in contact with any part of the body without releasing particles.

As well as being long-lasting, medical-grade silicone is waterproof, easy to clean, and works with all skin types. It’s also 10,000 times more hygienic than nylon, non-porous (to prevent bacteria buildup), and free of BPA and phthalates.

Body-safe silicone is also waterproof, flexible, and resistant to extreme conditions. It’s completely harmless in contact with the human body, so it’s safe for all skin types and doesn’t lose its shape or durability over time.

Another BPA and phthalate-free material, body-safe silicone is 35 times more hygienic than nylon, easy to clean, and antifungal to avoid mold and bacteria growth. The silicone bristles gently exfoliate dead skin cells, revealing soft and radiant skin underneath, and glide effortlessly across the skin without pulling, stretching, or being abrasive to preserve natural elasticity.

These ultra-hygienic silicones undergo a specific coating called Silicone Soft Touch, which helps the product last for years by withstanding the harshest chemicals. Throughout the years, FOREO has also upgraded its silicone many times, making it the most advanced yet.

Compared to plastics, which are manufactured through mining crude oil, silicone is made of silica derived from sand, which makes it more environmentally friendly. Silicone is also recyclable and doesn’t break down into micro-plastics.

Thermo-Therapy

Thermo-therapy is the therapeutic application of gentle heat to the skin. It creates a sense of well-being and relaxation by relaxing and soothing tension while increasing blood flow in the skin to aid oxygen and nutrients more efficiently through blood vessels. This process is essential for the regrowth of damaged tissue, the stimulation of fibroblasts, and lymphatic drainage.

T-Sonic Pulsations

The signature massage technology featured in every FOREO skincare device, gentle T-Sonic pulsations are a low-frequency massage that relaxes facial and neck muscle tension points and improves blood flow. The “T” stands for transdermal, as the pulses travel through the outer layers of the skin.

T-Sonic pulsations help active ingredients in skincare to penetrate the outer layer of the skin to penetrate deeper without clogging the pores. They also help smooth fine lines, reduce puffiness and dark circles, and boost radiance for a youthful look.

Microcurrents

Microcurrents—low-voltage currents—stimulate 69 muscles in the face and neck to contour and lift the skin and muscles. Like a natural, non-invasive facelift, microcurrent treatments improve elasticity, collagen production, and skin cell turnover.

Microcurrent devices have been in the beauty industry for over a decade, though 1748 was the first documented account of microcurrent technology being used by Swiss professor Jean Jallabert, who used a series of electric shocks to regenerate muscles in the paralyzed arm of a locksmith. LED Light Therapy

Originally developed by NASA for plant growth experiments on shuttle missions, LED light therapy is widely used by aestheticians for acne and to help regenerate skin from signs of aging. Unlike other types of light therapy, LED lights do not contain ultraviolet rays, and therefore are safe for regular use.

LED colors vary in wavelength to penetrate the skin at various depths for different effects.

Red LEDs stimulate the production of collagen and elastin to firm and lift skin. They also diminish fine lines, wrinkles, and other signs of aging. Orange LEDs ease sun damage and revitalize skin for a natural, healthy glow.

Yellow LEDs soothe sunburn, soften rosacea, combat swelling, and improve the overall skin tone. Eco-Benefits

Single-use wipes, on top of some containing irritating ingredients, result in a huge amount of waste every year; an estimated 20 million pounds a day. In 2018, more than 5,000 wet wipes were found on the banks in a single area of the River Thames in London. They also usually come in non-recyclable packaging, which contributed to the 14.5 million tons of plastic containers and packaging waste generated in the same year.

Facial Cleansing

FOREO’s LUNA, named after the same silicone as the soles of Neil Armstrong’s boots, was the world’s first ultra-hygienic silicone facial cleansing massager. It massages the face, cleanses the pores, and prevents breakouts.

LUNA 3 by Skin Type

With eight intensities of delicate pulsations, IRIS gives a customizable eye treatment with more effective results compared to manually massaging the eye. Made of ultra-hygienic, velvety soft, hypoallergenic silicone, IRIS creates a more youthful-looking eye area by reducing the appearance of lines, bags, and dark circles.

By gently massaging and soothing the eye contour, the eyes look more awake and lively with smoother, firmer skin. IRIS also helps eye creams and serums absorb better into the skin.

Oral Care

After 70 years with a stagnant toothbrush design, FOREO created the first ever silicone sonic toothbrush – ISSA. A 4-in-1 oral care experience, ISSA cleans your teeth, gums, cheeks, and tongue.

After an hour of charging, this toothbrush lasts for a while year without running out of battery. It incorporates ultra-hygienic medical-grade silicone and PBT polymer into its unique hybrid brush head for a soft gum massage and gentle brushing experience.

In clinical trials, ISSA improved the state of oral hygiene by 160% with the Sensitive Brush Head and 140% with the Hybrid Brush Head. ISSA 2

Thanks to its Sonic Pulse technology—with up to 11,000 high-intensity pulsations per minute—ISSA breaks up plaque and tartar buildup in the most efficient way. This super-gentle electric toothbrush features 16 adjustable speeds, a flexible head (so you can easily access every nook and cranny), and a brush on the back of the head for tongue cleaning.
