New Curling Wand Test, Tutorial & Review

Trying the GHD Classic Wave Curve Wand for Full, Fun Curls

After many years of creating my signature hairstyle, my OG curling wand finally bit the dust. Luckily, there’s another wand I’ve heard a lot of hype around and have wanted to test out that’s supposed to make Hollywood waves or texture, undone curls with ease.

Good Hair Day (GHD)’s Classic Wave Curve Wand features a 1″- 1.5″ oval-shaped ceramic-coated barrel, 25-second heat-up time, and automatic sleep mode after 30 minutes. It also features GHD’s “ultra‑zone technology,” which detects each strand and always adapts to the safer-for-hair temperature of 365°F across the entire barrel for consistent heat.

I love how sleek and lightweight this wand is, and I’ve never had a curling wand that heats up as quickly as this one.

To test out how well GHD’s Classic Wave Curve Wand works, I decided to curl my whole head of long locks.

I always start with unwashed hair to help it hold the curl better. After brushing any tangles out, apply a heat protectant spray, such as the Kerastase Genesis — Defense Thermique Blow Dry Primer I’ve been using.

Also, because I want my curls to last for multiple days, I usually go in with the DevaCurl Flexfactor Curl Protection & Retention Primer after my heat protectant. Add a couple squirts into your palms and run it through your hair until it’s thinly coated.

After sectioning the top section of your hair out of the way, grab about an inch-width of hair and wrap it around the wand. I usually let each curl sit for around 10 seconds or so. I like to use the Living Proof Flex Hairspray, medium hold, just to set those curls in each section a little bit before moving on to the next layer.

As I was using this wand for the first time, I was blown away by how easy and pretty the curls looked. I cannot believe how long I went without trying this curling iron, and I’m honestly a little mad about all the good hair days I missed out on.

Once that first section is complete, repeat the curling and hair-spraying on each layer with one-inch sections at a time until everything is curled. Then do one final spray and separate the strands with your fingers.

While the wand heats up quickly, it’s also supposed to cool down fast.

Overall, I am incredibly impressed. The GHD Curve Wand Classic Wave is literally the best hair wand I’ve ever tried, and I’ve tried a lot of them. I’m obsessed, and as if this testimony wasn’t proof enough, you have to try it out for yourself, especially if you’re in the market for a new curling iron.
