From high-end and affordable makeup brushes to blushes, shadows, lipsticks, and more, Sigma Beauty leads the makeup community with first-of-its-kind innovations, award-winning products, unbeatable quality, and a focus on vegan, cruelty-free, and eco-conscious beauty.
How Sigma Beauty Began
In 2009, power-couple molecular bacteriologist Dr. Simone Xavier and civil engineer Rene Xavier Filho launched Sigma Beauty with a single functional brush set, the Essential Kit. Designed to create a full face of makeup with just one set of brushes, the duo used social media to spread the word and garnered a cult-following, causing that first set to sell out.
With three driving forces—quality, function, and innovation—in mind, Sigma Beauty set out to offer high-quality, cruelty-free brushes at competitive prices.
Sigma Beauty Today
After starting with cruelty-free luxurious makeup brushes, Sigma Beauty evolved a full line of professional quality beauty cleaning tools, lipsticks, blush and contour palettes, eye and brow makeup, and much more. The brand listens to its consumers’ attitudes and behaviors to develop new beauty solutions, as well as feedback to improve its existing products. With high-quality materials, ingredients, and technology, Sigma Beauty continues to innovate every tool, texture, formula, and color.
Sigma Beauty’s brushes are the preferred tools used by professional makeup artists around the world, and both Xavier and Xavier Filho are still as involved as ever by helping to invent, design, manufacture, and sell Sigma’s products. It’s a passion project summed in the name itself, Σ, the capital Greek letter for a mathematical sum called “Sigma.”
Benefits of Sigma Beauty
A large focus for Sigma Beauty is developing professional-quality makeup products free of parabens and harsh chemicals that can damage skin to put customers’ health and safety first.
As well as parabens, all of Sigma’s current makeup and brush cleansers are free of more than 70 harsh chemicals, including sulfates, phthalates, mineral oil, acetone, and bisphenol (BPA). Sigma believes in Clean Beauty not as a trend, but as a movement, which is why its Clean Beauty Seal guarantees products free from those harsh chemicals, and all its new launches are formulated to comply with that extensive clean ingredient list. The brand has also committed to monitoring, reformulating, and improving its current and future products as the clean beauty movement continues to evolve.
All of Sigma Beauty’s products—from brushes and blenders to cleaners and makeup—are cruelty-free. The brushes have been cruelty-free and vegan for several years, but every Sigma Beauty product is manufactured and developed using methods that do not involve experimentation on animals.
Just as Sigma’s brushes are cruelty-free, they have also been considered vegan for nearly a decade. Featuring synthetic SigmaTech and Sigmax bristles, these exclusive fibers are nonporous, more hygienic, more effective, and longer lasting than natural bristles. Their nonporous nature leads to less product absorption and waste, and they are hypoallergenic and sustainable to boot.
Beyond the all-vegan brushes, blenders, and cleansers, Sigma has an extensive list of other vegan products, such as a large assortment of makeup. Some vegan makeup products include the Soft Focus Setting Powders, Ambiance Eyeshadow Platte, Eyeshadow Base Primers, Renew Lip Oils, and Infinity Point Lipsticks.
Xavier is an animal lover and veterinarian, so Sigma is continually working to develop and reformulate its makeup, whenever possible, to align with vegan qualifications. This includes refraining from using ingredients like animal oils, musks, and fats that can clog pores and cause allergic reactions.
Instead, Sigma is focusing on skin-soothing plant-based ingredients, like vitamin E, jojoba oil, and sunflower seed oil. After all, the skin absorbs up to 60% of the products applied to it, and vegan ingredients can help avoid breakouts, rashes, and unwanted redness.
Other Important Notes
Sigma’s brushes are built to be long-lasting from bristles to base. With regular cleaning and brush care, these brushes can last a lifetime, which means fewer brushes end up in landfills.
Since its creation, Sigma now boasts an 85% female team. All Sigma products are designed in the United States with the highest quality ingredients and components and are hand-checked for quality at its headquarters in Minnesota. Their natural mica is also sourced from a mica mine located in Hartwell, Georgia.
April is Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month, and Sigma Beauty also partners with ASPCA for all of April to help further their mission.
Sigma Beauty Products
Sigma is constantly creating new products to add to its lineup of brushes, cleaners, and makeup. From the first-ever brush drying mechanism in 2011 and the first-ever, now-patented brush cleaning device in 2013 to cult-beauty awards from “Allure,” “Teen Vogue,” “InStyle,” and more every year from 2016-2021, Sigma’s high-quality beauty products are no joke.
While the brand offers a variety of products, Sigma Beauty is most known for its unbeatable brushes. The vegan, cruelty-free, antimicrobial, and hypoallergenic brushes use ultra-soft synthetic SigmaTech® and Sigmax® fibers to better hold, apply, and blend a variety of makeup and skincare formulas with minimal product absorption.
Sigmax® Fibers are Sigma Beauty’s exclusive thermoplastic engineering polymer developed to evenly apply cream and powder products. They’re also extremely soft, durable, and strong with outstanding heat and chemical resistance. SigmaTech® Fibers are Sigma Beauty’s exclusive selection of high-performance synthetic fibers with specialized tips that hold and deliver cream and powder products without any absorption and maintain their original shape, even after washing.
Natural brushes are expected to survive for one to five years, or even less without proper care. The bristles can dry out after multiple washes, the natural fibers do not work well with glues or bonding agents and tend to shed, and their porous nature can absorb makeup while also harboring bacteria, dirt, and oil.
On the other hand, Sigma’s brushes are known for being virtually indestructible: They’ve even been run over by cars and still won’t break. They can withstand multiple washes, stay soft, and rarely ever shed. The nonporous synthetic bristles provide a more uniform application, are suitable for powder, cream, and liquid formulas, and are quick and easy to clean.
Beyond the bristles themselves, Sigma’s brushes feature high-performance SigmaAlloy™ ferrules (the metal that connects the bristles to the handle) made with a special metal alloy of copper and zinc that isstrong, antimicrobial, and corrosion and wear-resistant. Each ferrule is also layered in chrome, copper, and gold for lifelong shine and protection.
The ferrules feature patented interlocking technology with double-threaded engineering invented by Sigma Beauty to create a tight waterproof seal. While conventional brushes are typically glued or pinched, this innovative screwing system firmly attaches the ferrules to the solid, polymer-based handles.
F80 Flat Kabuki Brush
An award-winning and best-selling foundation brush, the F80 Flat Kabuki Brush creates an airbrushed finish with liquid and cream formulas thanks to its ultra-soft Sigmax fibers. The dense, flat brush head blends and buffs foundations into the skin for a smooth, high-definition finish with buildable medium to full coverage.
Create a matte, poreless base for any makeup look with ease. Use it with cushion compacts by tapping the brush head into the sponge, all without over-absorbing products.
Another award-winning Sigma product, the 3DHD Blender is hand cut to create its unique shape. Reach every angle and contour with ease to prime, conceal, sculpt, and highlight to perfection.
This precise blending sponge creates a sheer to medium coverage airbrushed finish. Use the flat bottom for applying foundation, the pointed tip for concealing around the inner corner of the eye, and the sharp edge around the eyebrows.

It’s perfect for gently applying color, transitioning shades, or applying targeted highlights.
Finally, the E30 Pencil Brush has a firm tip for precise color placement. It easily softens and blurs for a smokey eye look, and the small head is ideally sized for lining or adding an inner corner highlight. You can read more about the F80 Flat Kabuki Brush and E25 Blending Brush above.
