Between whipping winds, cold temperatures, dry air, and harsh weather, our skin takes quite the beating during the winter. Areas where the skin is the thinnest need even more protection and care, and hydration plays an important role in that.
Keeping your skin moisturized prevents not only dryness, redness, flaking, and peeling, but also long-term effects like minimizing signs of premature aging. While lotion is perfect for the body and moisturizers work well for the face, the lips are their own struggle.
Chapstick and lip balms are great at protecting and healing the delicate lip skin, but lip masks double up that hydration for a healthier and happier smile. That’s why I have a new favorite product to add to my skincare routine: Patchology’s Moodpatch Keep Smiling Lip Gels.
These lip masks are incredibly easy to use and give great results.
At the end of the day—once your makeup is washed away—put one of these gels onto your clean, dry lips and let it sit for at least 10 minutes. Then simply discard the gel and massage any leftover essence into the skin. These masks make your lips softer, plumper, less irritated, and more hydrated both instantly and over time.
Coconut extract and hyaluronic acid work together to not only intensely hydrate and protect the skin but prevent future water loss as well. These gels also use lavender to soothe and smooth the skin, creating a pillowy, plush pout. Sweet Violet also moisturizes the lips and minimizes stress.
As well as the skincare benefits, these lip masks also smell amazing and don’t have a weird flavor (which is a struggle I’ve had with some lip gels in the past). The floral violet scent adds an aromatherapy effect to the experience that calms the senses and creates a relaxed atmosphere.
On top of important self-care, these lip masks also plump and smooth the lips. They fill out the lip lines and make lipsticks look smoother with a fuller, plumper pout. I’ve found these masks work especially well in the mornings when I’m going to use a matte liquid lipstick since those dry the skin more than other lip products.
I’m going to make these gels a routine part of my skincare, but I’m also going to save some for when my lips need some extra TLC.
