Flawless, Airbrushed Makeup at Home

Create a smooth, glowing, even complexion with ease

You can create flawless airbrushed makeup to look filter-free and perfectly glowing all the time. The best part is that you don’t need anything more than what you likely already have at home.

Start by adding a couple drops of face oil to your skin and complete a Gua Sha routine. I used La Mer’s The Renewal Oil (which you can learn more about here) for this routine, but I’ve also enjoyed other brands in the past, such as Eminence Organic Skin Care’s Facial Recovery Oil. I also have a previous post and video where I go more in-depth on how to Gua Sha if you’re new.

The second step is priming the skin. I prefer to use illuminating, radiating, and glowing primers to get that dewy, “lit-from-within” look. Simply apply your makeup primer across your skin on top of the oil.

The third step is foundation.

Lately, I’ve been mixing a BB and CC cream together for this step, but you can also use foundations, tinted moisturizers, or whatever type of base formulas you prefer. For example, I like the It Cosmetics Bye Bye Foundation Full Coverage Moisturizer with SPF 50+, the Giorgio Armani Designer Lift SPF 20 Smoothing Firming Foundation (although all of Giorgio Armani’s foundations are honestly amazing), and a Monat BB Cream.

For my base, I also like to use one color that’s pretty true to my skin tone, as well as a slightly tanner shade.

Step four is one of the most important parts for getting that airbrushed flawless finish, and that is using a makeup sponge and setting spray. I used a traditional Beautyblender, but eCosmetics also has an affordable option that works amazingly as well.

When you’re applying different layers of face makeup, you need moisture so that it all blends evenly. I apply three to four spritzes of my favorite setting spray on my Beautyblender, which is the Madluvv Set Me Setting Spray. This spray uses refreshing and hydrating rose water and hyaluronic acid, it makes everything last all day, and it controls oil while still creating dewy, wet-looking skin.

Once the makeup sponge is sprayed, use it to smooth the base makeup across the face; it’ll just glide on like butter. Once the foundation, BB cream, or CC cream is evenly distributed across your face and neck, stipple the Beautyblender across your face to tap it in and blend it out.

Next, I go in with my concealer along the edges of my nose, corners of my mouth, and corners of my eyes before blending and smoothing it out with my Beautyblender. I used the Milani Conceal + Perfect Longwear Concealer for this, but any concealer lighter than your skin tone should work well.

I love how this look isn’t cakey, and it gives a glow like you’re wearing a highlighter without actually needing to apply a highlighter. You’ll end up with a gorgeous, even, airbrushed look while barely having to lift a finger.
