I am always on the hunt for a good highlighter, so I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to test out CHANEL’s POUDRE LUMIERE – Highlighting Powder. This tinted powder creates a light-reflecting, shimmering, and illuminating finish for a gorgeous lit-from-within glow.
I ordered shade 10 Ivory Gold, and it came in some gorgeous sleek black packaging.
When we open the box, the compact comes in a cute Chanel dust bag with the Chanel emblem on the front. Inside that is, again, sleek black packaging. This can be either a good thing or a bad thing; some people really like black packaging because it is classic, it is sleek, and it is sexy, but your fingerprints do show easily, so I would recommend keeping this highlighter in its dust bag.
When you open it up, you’ll see the compact mirror, and then the half-moon-style brush. The half-moon brush sits in a plastic separator so that it stays in place without getting the handle covered in highlighting powder, but you can take it out if you prefer.
The half-moon brush is very soft. It’s also perfect for highlighting over your cheekbones, the bridge of your nose, chin, above the eyebrows, or under the eyebrows because it’s very precise. I like that the brand name Chanel is on the brush as well because it gives it a more luxurious feel.
Chanel is also embossed in the powder itself, which is pretty and feels so luxe. I decided to swatch the color with my finger and then apply it to see the difference.
The swatch of this highlighter is beautiful; it’s not overly glittery, picks up light really well, and works with my skin tone, but I can actually see it working for a lot of different skin tones. I applied the highlighter right over my cheekbones and the other locations I mentioned before as well, and the brush’s half-moon shape was so convenient for this because it fits precisely in a lot of areas.
Once applied, this highlighter still picks up light beautifully. What I like most about this highlighter is that when I’m facing front, you can see a very subtle nice glow, but when I turn to the side and the light picks it up, that’s when you get that real pop of light and glow-from-within.
That glow is exceptionally pretty without being too harsh or streaky. I hate when I use a highlighter and can see the line of it, even when facing forward, but I don’t get that effect from this highlighter. It’s also pigmented without being too pigmented, so you can build over it and really customize the color that you want.
Overall, the CHANEL Highlighting Powder is definitely a win, and I would both recommend and repurchase.
